The Spruzza Mist Cooling System

The Spruzza Mist Cooling System

"Like" and please "Subscribe"

This is one of four products to help keep you cool in the summer heat. Cycling in the summer with hot temperatures can make your heart rate climb and have an effect on your performance. Using the Spruzza Mist cooling system, cools your body off from 15 to 20 degrees. Mist your face, your neck or your chest. I use it along with other products as the evaporative cooling effect helps in the time it takes to recover from a ride. Ride cooler this summer.

TRAGO

So here is what it's all about!

So what is a TRAGO water bottle.  A 20 ounce water bottle with a BLE smart lid. Connect the water bottle to the app, available for both Android and Apple devices. Enter some information about your body, like body weight, male or female and the level of activity you participate in to all help keep you hydrated.
Like with my food tracking apps, I have a difficult time often inputting my water I have consumed everyday.  This app keeps me on my daily goal. It reminds me of how much I have to drink and reminds me a few times during the day to keep drinking. The app splits the day into three segments, morning/afternoon/evening. On the bottom of the app it gives daily tips on how hydration keeps your body working.

So enough talk about the app, let me show you some of the screens the app shows and well as what the bottle looks like. The lid also works on some other bottles on the market. The lid is powered off a simple coin battery, it comes with. It can easily be changed when needed.

The different screens on the app show a running total of how much water you need to be consuming and what you are actually drinking. On the bottom of the screen it has a daily total and what you have been drinking.  You can set the app up in units of measurement in ounces or milliliters. You also have the option of manually updating your total of how much water you have consumed. The “fluid thoughts”, help you stay hydrated and give you tips and information on doing so. These can be turned off in the app’s settings if you want. The app tracks then your daily hydration and keeps a log to be later looked at for the whole week and month.

"Stay hydrated my friends!"

The Spruzza Mist System for Staying Cool While Riding

A few months back, friends of mine at Cat-Ears, gave me a Spruzza Mist unit, knowing I live and train in hot desert of Arizona. It is a misting system that is mounted and used on my bike. The bracket can be mounted to the underside of the stem on any bicycles handlebars, road bike, tri bike or even a mountain bike. The weather is getting quite warm now, whether the sun is up or not. Summer is upon us here in the Sonoran Desert. Spruzza is a misting device you squeeze the trigger and allows you to angle the head of the unit so the mist hits your face, neck, or chest, cooling your body down.  The five ounce water reservoir can provide up to 300 squirts of the water mist, so there is plenty usage before having to refill.  After initially setting up the Spruzza on your handlebars, which is very quick and easy to install and comes with all necessary parts to do so. The Spruzza can be removed quickly if you decide you don’t need it for the ride you are going on.  A small “cleat” still stays on the bike with the zip ties attached to it, but the water reservoir and trigger sprayer come off.  The water reservoir is also easy to remove and refill.  The Spruzza delivers a two to three inch diameter spray pattern.  Typically while wearing sunglasses you will want to avoid spraying them, as it will end up to water spots on the lenses.

When I have sprayed my face it has been while stopped at a light. David at Spruzza provided me with  tubing ( 2 feet or 24 inches, replacing the 4 1/4 inch tube for the five ounce reservoir) and water bottle set up allowing for water to be accessed from your water bottle mounted in the cage on the down tube of your bike.  So now you can add ice to this water bottle, chilling the water down, as well as be able to fill it with 20 ounces of water. So do the quick math and that ends up to
five ounces being 300 sprays
so 20 ounces would be 1200 sprays.
This is perfect for those super long hot rides, and you don’t have to worry about refilling as you go.
The directions said you can expect a cooling of between 15 and 20 degrees. In the desert heat every little bit helps.

Here is my results of testing the Spruzza, which are not lab certified by any means.

Readings off my skin and clothes were captured by using a dual laser infrared thermometer and seeing how much they cool down from using the Spruzza. Speed on the bike was about 15 to 20 mph with direct sun hitting me. Outside air temperature was 100F degrees. The water in the Spruzza was 70F degree water to start with.

Readings from my chest wearing a jersey started off
at 97F without misting myself and was cooled to 82F after misting.

The next reading had my jersey at 107F and cooling off to 83F after misting.

The final reading had my jersey at my chest hitting 103F and 78F after misting with the Spruzza.
Of course speed and the amount of misting will result in different results. Keep in mind too the humidity in my area is alway pretty low, at the time of testing it was at eight percent.

*speed and humidity as well as sun/shade while using can change results

Here is a special offer BONUS I am passing along. For the first TEN riders to contact David at

and purchase a Spruzza Mist unit, David will include a lid and tubing along with zip ties to attach to your own water bottle giving you up to 1200 sprays. This is a great offer you can't pass up.

With the cooling happening, your body is under less heat stress. Riding or training in hot temperatures will cause your heart rate to increase. This happens as your body will send blood to your skin helping it cool off. Spraying your head, neck and chest with the Spruzza, helps cool the skin making your more comfortable.

Relaj Shape Water Bottle

The Relaj Shape

 (the LeakLock prevents unwanted spills)

                                                                                                              (bottom removes for cleaning)
 (fully disassembles for cleaning)
I have been using the Relaj Shape water bottle for about  a month now and am super impressed with it's comfort and features.  First of all its ergonomic shape fits in my hand as well as my bike bottle cage, riding in my Orange Mud Hydra Quiver and even fits nicely in my cars cup holder. Its textured outer feel can still be wet, due to condensation, yet won't easily slip out of your hand.  What many bottles miss is a valve that stops them from leaking if accidentally tipped. With the Relaj there is a LeakLock Valve that prevents this from happening.  Another aspect in which a lot of bottles miss is the ability to be fully disassembled for cleaning.  The Relaj fully disassembles for cleaning to get all those hard to reach areas where germs can hide. Both the top and bottom can be screwed off and the tapered flexible spout can be removed. The bottle and pieces can be placed on either the top or bottom rack of the dishwasher to be cleaned, or can simply be washed by hand. The bottle is BPA Free. (BPA is a chemical used in the production of plastics and epoxy resins)
The bottle was designed to use by tipping the bottle up to drink from, instead of the cyclists head, therefore keeping your eyes on where you are going. The squeezable bottle allows for a lot of fluid to be consumed within a short period of time.
The Relaj holds 23 ounces of fluid.
There is an optional re freezable stick that can be screwed into the bottom base, but the Relaj bottles I use do not have these.
The bottle is very sleek and very function-able for all cyclists and those who enjoy the outdoors.
Check out the Relaj Shape in action!

The Ultra Sport Travel towel by Shandali

I was given to try and test out a microfiber towel made by Shandali (www.shandali.com). In the summer time spending time around the water to cool off a towel to dry off is always handy. Shandali makes two sizes of their ultra sport travel towel.  I tested out the 20" by 40" towel yet they also come in 24" by 48".
I sometimes don't like the feel of microfiber, but this I could handle. The towel is very soft on your skin. I threw it in my kids swim bag where it take up no room at all. The towel is super absorbent, which you wouldn't think a towel this size would be.  The towel is made of 80% polyester and 20% nylon.  I use and love my Orange Mud Transition towel for drying off after I swim at the pool.  The towel would be a perfect fit for those going to the beach or spending all day by the pool wanting to dry off and not want to worry about a bulky towel to carry around. The advanced microfiber lightweight material is sure to soak up any amount of water your body holds onto after exiting the water. I dried both my kids off with it after swim lessons and they both commented on how soft it was on their skin. The towel has a built in hook to hang it by for drying which dries very fast. The towel is super absorbent and is available in a few different colors.
Full Disclosure:

X-1 by H2O Audio to fuel your workouts

The smallest amount of sweat or water can turn your headphones into a quick piece of junk. You have invested enough in your audio, so why let sweat ruin it.  I enjoy using numerous audio set ups from X-1 by H2O Audio.  Not only are the headphones sweat proof but underwater proof too.  The devices I own have fueled many a sweaty and or pool workout.  I am either seen at the pool with my X-1 case for my 3rd generation iPod Nano that I wear in a Velcro belt or the Interval 4G waterproof headphone system attached to my goggle strap.  I guess you could say the one I use the most, is the one that is charged ready to go.  Both securely hold my iPod and keep it dry yet allow me to use my playlist to push my workouts to the edge.  I have a few different choices when it comes to headphones I use.  The Surge Sportwrap and Surge mini waterproof headphones are both high quality made and transfer music to your ears without having to worry about being ruined by any amount of moisture. Each set of headphones comes with different tip sizes that can be easily swapped out to fit comfortably.

The Surge Contact waterproof headset is great for those that want to stay connected with an in-line waterproof microphone.  The clip stays positioned where you put it and has a convenient one-touch answer/end button.  All the sets of headphones I have came with five sets of elastomer earplugs to comfortably fit any ear opening.

As an ambassador and member of  Team X-1, contact me through my e-mail or DM on Twitter to find out about getting a discount.

I advise only using your headphones while running, swimming, at the gym or other activity other than cycling on the road.  Using a headset while cycling is dangerous, as the rider must be listening for traffic and others around them.
