Night Provision BX550 Rechargeable USB Bike Light

On the brightest setting the light will produce 550 Lumens running about three hours. Of course with any battery operated device, the lower the brightness the longer the life of the charge of the battery. The three setting of this light consist of 550 Lumens, mid at 250 Lumens and the lowest setting shines the light at 50 Lumens. At the lowest setting the light will last about ten hours before having to be recharged. There is also a strobe mode, which flashes at the brightness of 250 Lumens. You can simply and easily check the battery power by holding the button down for three seconds after the light has been turned off. The light will then flash from one to ten times, with ten times meaning the battery is fully charged. I have used the light for commuting and it is plenty bright on street light lit roads. The light is only able to be attached on your handlebars and can’t attach to a helmet. The mount it comes with can stay on the bike and the light  can simply slide out. The light is very secure and stable in the handlebar mount. The mount ratchets to tighten when putting on the handlebar. The light comes with the necessary USB charging cable. This is a great light for any cyclist or mountain bike rider. Keep in mind this light is only able to be attached to handlebars and not the option of both handlebars or helmet. The ease of being able to charge it in a computer or wall USB charger is perfect for commuters who may need to charge it while at work.
The lights battery can be checked by holding the button in for three seconds.  The light will then blink anywhere from one to ten times.  Each blink is ten percent of a charge.  So if the light blinks six times, you have a battery that is at 60 percent.
I am a fan of using any light on the strobe mode, like this one that on that mode shines at 250 Lumens, during the day when commuting and riding with traffic.

Note: I was offered the light at at discount for supplying a review.

CycleBeam’s Graphene 700 Bike Light

This very rugged little handlebar light with external battery back is very bright and light weight.  The CREE XM-L2 LED bulb can be used in one of three modes. Yes, this light has only one LED, but a very powerful one. High, low and blinking. With the light running on high, the battery will last approximately five hours. While using the light on low power it could last up to 15 hours.  The durable light is built of an aluminum and is water resistant, however it should not be submerged in water. If the light should get wet, say by rain, you will be ok. The cord running from the light to the battery pack has a screw ring on it, once snapped with the connection, screw the water resistant cap to make the connection secure. With the light being made of aluminum, it dissipates heat very well. The battery back has a case with velcro straps, allowing it to be attached to the top bar of the bike. For mounting the light, it attaches to an aluminum clamp.  The kit comes with two hex key tools, one is used to attach the light to the clamp and the other is to tighten the clamp after attaching it to your handlebar. It comes with a few different size pieced of rubber stripping that seat under the clamp to make a tight grip on the handlebar. Both the power cable from the light and from the battery are pretty long. Of course the light can be plugged into the battery that comes with it but it also has a feature that allows you to, if needed, to used an external battery with a USB attachment to plug into it.
The kit comes with some seals for the light as well as rubber strips to use when attaching it to the handlebars.  Once tightened on the handlebar, it is very sturdy and it can handle all the shaking and bumping around. Minor adjustments to where you want to the light pointed are not possible unless you loosen the bolt and reposition it with the hex key. Set the light up with the direction you want it pointed before heading off on a ride.
For night riding and being able to light up a trail or path, this light does very well.

CycleBeam’s Proton 700 Lumen Bike Helmet Light

CycleBeam’s Proton 700 Lumen Bike Helmet Light

 Helmet Mount
 Proton 700
Battery Pack / Cords / Emergency Charger
Power Button Glows Green

CycleBeam’s Proton 700 Lumen bike helmet light is a LED CREE XM-L2  which is enclosed in an aircraft-grade aluminum housing which is water-proof. Being housed in aluminum it allows for the light to dissipate heat, helping increase the length the battery before recharging. Weighing about 167 Gram ( 50 Gram — light + 117 Gram — battery) it is very comfortable mounted on top of the bike helmet. It’s single button control is easy to use in any of the six modes ( high, medium, low, strobe, SOS and off). The battery level is shown in the button with is glowing green when the battery is full and red when it is low. With the output of the light set on high, emitting a full 650-700 Lumen the battery will last about two and a half hours.
The light mounts very easily to the helmet mount using a rubber ring, which in turn is easily attached running it through a few air vents in the helmet and centering the light.  When mounted the light is able to be adjusted up and down allowing the rider to light the path more in front of them or up close.
Straps also come along to strap the battery to your helmet, however after a long ride any weight added to the helmet is unnecessary.  A 40 inch power extension comes with the light, allowing you to place the battery pack in your jersey pocket or ride pack.
The light is very impressive for its size and the quality of the beam is sweet.

Besides using the USB connector to charge the battery back, it can be used in an emergency as a power bank for your smart phone or other device. It takes awhile for the battery to charge so keep this in mind before wanting to use the light.

Pedallon's USB Rechargeable 100 Lumens Bike Light

I was sent the Pedallon bike lights to use, test and review.  These LED lights come in at full power brightness of 100 Lumens.  The internal battery, which is a Lithium polymer 3.7V 500mAh, takes about two hours to fully charge. The life of the battery depends upon one of the six modes. The modes are standard, with a brightness of 20 Lumens in which the battery will last about seven hours, with the light on high it comes in at a brightness of 50 Lumens and will last about three hours and finally with the light on super high it comes in at a brightness of the full 100 Lumens and the battery in this mode will last about two hours.  So those are the first three modes in which the lights is on constantly. The other three modes the lights have are a flashing or strobe mode.  With the light flashing at 50 percent power the light will last about six hours and flashing at 100 percent power the battery will last about three hours. With the strobe mode the light will last about four hours.  The lights are rechargeable with a simple USB cord, so they can be charged in a USB outlet in a wall or attached to a computer. The light has an orange lighting bolt near the on/off switch.  When the light is plugged into the USB cord charging, the orange lightning bolt symbol will indicate by flickering on and off that the battery is charging.  If the orange light is on solid it indicates the battery is fully charged. The light weighs 35.5 grams and are easily mounted or removed with a quick release rubber strap. The strap can mount to any bar or seat post measuring 22mm to 31.8mm.  The bracket on the bottom of the light can be mounted in the rubber strap either vertically or horizontally. When attached to the bracket on the rubber strap, you are able to pivot the mount also, allowing for more precise angles if needed. The lights are very secure once mounted on their rubber straps and are not going anywhere, if you should hit a pot hole or be bounced around. The rubber strap won’t scratch your handlebars or seat tube, but can be mounted really across any tube on your bike.
Pedallon makes the light in both a white front light or a red tail light and are sold individually.  The light with it’s rating of 100 Lumens is perfect for being seen out on the road amongst traffic or other riders. As for a light to shine out and project a beam to light the way along a path this light will do no good.
Pedalllon would like to extend a discount of 35 percent off for readers of my blog. Simply use the coupon code for the front light: QLZZU7EJ and/or for the rear light: WFQI3VEL. The coupon codes until midnight on 28 February (PST) so you must act quick.

Lupine Lighting Wilma 2400 Lumen Kit

With the daylight hours being decreased due to winter, lights are a needed item when out training.  I am super impressed with the Lupine Lighting Wilma 2400 Lumen kit I have been using.  First off, the light produced by this small unit is similar to a car's headlamp in the terms of brightness.  When the German engineers produced this gem, they put a lot of thought and care in the design and function of this light.  The light comes with a headband mount, which is perfect for running, walking or trail hiking.
View a quick video on the great features of this powerful light.

It throws off a 26 degree pattern, which after a quick adjustment can be directed out farther or directly down right in front of you.  I have both the headband and bike helmet mount and switching the lamp between the two is a quick "no tool needed" process.  The rechargeable 8.4 Ah battery lasts a long time.  There is a nicely thought out gauge on the battery to let you know how much power is left.  The button on the top of the lamp itself is used to turn it off and on, hitting the button once cuts the power of the light back by half, while pressing and holding the button turns the lamp off.  The kit comes with a 12-volt car charger.  Once again, very well thought out.  I could see this coming in handy for a quick charge on the way to meet a fellow group of riders, or to charge during a long race when a household outlet will be hard to find.
Winter rides are perfect now, being visible to others on the road, as well as being able to see what's in front of me out on the trails or roads, either running or biking. When the sun does begin to rise earlier in the summer months, you can bet I will be out even earlier to avoid the heat and sun getting my rides in.
