I've totally switched

Leading up to this last mountain bike race, I swapped out to a set of new tires. In doing so, I also needed to add a tubeless sealant. I placed four ounces of Slime Tubeless Ready (STR) sealant in each tire. Beforehand, I shook the bottles up well.

Of course I’m up for trying the newly released Slime Tubeless Ready (STR) sealant. They sent me a four ounce bottle to try out.  They claim it is suppose to stay liquid longer than others on the market. It’s work a try. They recommend between two and four ounces per mountain bike tire and one and a half to two ounces per road tire.
I am now using a combination of Stan’s and Orange Seal.  This Slime sample will be interesting to test against the other two.
Another key advantage with (STR) Sealant is that it’s able to withstand a wide range of temperatures and environmental variations. Whether cold winter temperatures or baking hot asphalt, the sealant remains unaffected. The (STR) Sealant is CO2 compatible. Other sealants can dry out or degrade when subjected to the cold temperatures created by CO2 cartridges, but the synthetic latex blend has an ultra-low freezing point of 3°F/-16° C so it won’t freeze or dry up when you’re making a roadside repair or setting a tire bead, lets face it we all don’t own air compressors,  with a CO2 cartridge.

With other sealants, I had to go back every five or six days and add more air to the tires, but so far, not with the Slime Tubeless Ready (STR) sealant. I am impressed. If you are looking for a tubeless sealant, I am a believer in Slime.

Building up energy

I was out yesterday morning and got my early morning workout in. A quick 12 mile ride, consisting of two loops. Nothing fast, but I tried to keep my cadence and speed up. Took me over just 22 minutes a lap, which I have been able to do previously in just under 19 minutes. I need to work on getting that down faster as I build my fitness up.
Later that day I needed to get in a run. I planned on a three mile run, just to get the heart-rate up and the legs moving. I felt fine the first two miles and then just hit a wall. Energy was totally zapped. I may have not eaten as much as I should have after the morning workout, but I kept moving.
I had to talk a walk break for a minute, but then just took the pace down a little. My hydration must have been down a little too, as I woke up this morning with a headache.
Looking to do a long run this weekend and a longer bike ride the next day to shake out the legs good.

Did it, but barely.

I finished the 100 miles of cycling I had set out for my goal last week.  With about 25 miles to go, I came down with a cold, so the rest of the goal was tough.
I did 12.5 of the miles on mountain bike.
On an evening road ride, I was 8 miles into what was planned at 10 until a severe rear flat. The flat was a pinch flat or blow out, I can't tell exactly. The ride ended abruptly having me walk home about  a mile. I was in a good groove and pace and the weather was cooling off from the daytime heat.
I turned around the next day and finished up the last day with an easy three mile ride around the neighborhood on a different bike.
The summer heat is for sure here.  I have a series of four videos coming out, and will link them back to my blog here.  The videos are about different products that will help keep riders cool in the summer. They keep you outside and on the road as opposed to riding indoors on a boring trainer. Stay tuned.

Upped the training

Upped the training, well the cycling part so far.  I hope to end this week on a high note of crushing 100 miles in my weeks worth of riding.  I know it nothing big, but it a goal I am trying for this week. I have 71 miles down and am have two more planned rides on the calendar for this week.
Soon, even though it will be tough, I have a half-marathon to start training for. Running!  The run is not until early November and I already have a decent base below me workout wise.
